Alghochak — A Home Away From Home
A volunteer-led community organisation supporting Afghan families and individuals living in Northern Ireland. Join us in building a stronger, more connected community together.
Our Story
Alghochak — الغوچک — means stepping stones. It is a name that reflects exactly what this organisation exists to do.
When Afghan families began arriving in Northern Ireland in larger numbers, members of the existing Afghan community saw a gap. People arriving needed more than housing and practical support — they needed connection, culture, and people who understood their experience.
Alghochak was established in Belfast on 6th December 2022 to fill that gap. What started as a small group of volunteers has grown into a community that supports Afghan families and individuals across Northern Ireland — one step at a time.

Our Pillars
Guided by our core values, we foster a welcoming environment where every member feels seen and supported.
Our Mission
To empower Afghan families, build connections, and create opportunities for a better future in Northern Ireland.
Our Values
Integrity. Respect. Transparency. Accountability. Compassion.
Our Approach
We work together as a community to make a positive difference — not for our community, but with our community.
Our Commitment
We follow our constitution, work voluntarily, manage funds responsibly, and remain accountable to our community and our partners.
OUR CREATIVE TEAM
Our Team
At Alghochak — الغوچک, our dedicated team is the heart of our organization. Comprising passionate volunteers and community members, we strive to support Afghan families in Belfast through cultural enrichment and community events.
